History week: “When the rule of law stops, tyranny begins”

During a speech marking the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland said: “One and a half million children and millions more adults, Jews, Roma, homosexuals, disabled people, political dissidents, religious minorities and others, singled out for their race, religion, political beliefs, or their sexual orientation. Murdered.”

Complaints to ECHR on the rise

“The Court still faces serious problems with its case-load,” said President of the Court Jean-Paul Costa. “We will be building on the reforms introduced in 2010 to make the Court more effective and efficient.”

No woman, No vote

Montenegro, San Marino and Serbia have been given until the April session (11-15 April 2011) to appoint at least one woman or their voting rights will be suspended. The ban would stay in place until the inclusion of a woman is confirmed.
