Anti death penalty campaigner Renate Wohlwend is to make a last ditch appeal to Texan authorities to stop the execution of Humberto Leal García scheduled for tomorrow.
Renate Wohlwend, the Parliamentary Assembly’s rapporteur on abolition of the death penalty, expressed her dismay at the refusal by President Lukashenka to grant clemency to Aleh Gryshkautsou, 29 and 28 year old Andrei Burdyka.
“Capital punishment has no place in the penal systems of modern societies.”
“It will now be up to the new Governor Pat Quinn, a close ally of Barrack Obama, to sign this initiative into law,” said Renate Wohlwend, the assembly’s rapporteur on ‘The death penalty in Council of Europe member and observer states – an unacceptable violation of human rights.’
