Qatar signs co-operation agreement with Council of Europe ahead of FIFA World Cup 2022

The €600,000 agreement – under the terms of the European Convention on Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sports events, aims to fulfill standards relative to safety, security and service. This would enable the country to accede to the convention and assist its preparations for hosting important events, such as the IAAF Athletics World Championships in 2019 in Doha and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

FIFA and the Council of Europe to promote human rights

FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland underlined the importance of the Council of Europe’s sports conventions in protecting human rights in sport and agreed to start work on a Memorandum of Understanding between FIFA and the Council of Europe setting out in detail areas of cooperation between the two organisations.
