FIFA and the Council of Europe to promote human rights

FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland underlined the importance of the Council of Europe’s sports conventions in protecting human rights in sport and agreed to start work on a Memorandum of Understanding between FIFA and the Council of Europe setting out in detail areas of cooperation between the two organisations.

“I am delighted that 11 Council of Europe member states will tonight become the first group of countries to sign the Convention and I am confident many others will soon follow suit,” the Secretary General declared.
