Turkey: Murat Arslan wins fifth Václav Havel Human Rights Prize

Earlier today, Murat Arslan, the detained Turkish supporter of judicial independence, became the fifth winner of the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize.

The award, worth €60,000, which honours outstanding civil society action in defence of human rights, was presented at a special ceremony in Strasbourg, on the opening day of the autumn plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly.

Arslan has been in detention since 2016. He is a former Rapporteur of the Turkish Constitutional Court and president of the now dissolved Association for the Union of Judges and Prosecutors (YARSAV).
