An international conference opens today in Nicosia to promote the strengthening of democracy through education across the Council of Europe’s 47 member states.

Participants at the ‘Scuring Democracy through Education’ conference will examine how education can fight violent extremism and radicalisation leading to terrorism and help to build inclusive societies, valuing diversity and dialogue.

The event will be opened by the Minister of Education and Culture of Cyprus, Costas Kadis together with Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General, Gabriella Battaini Dragoni and the European Commissioner on Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Tibor Navracsics.
