Governments back three-year internet governance strategy to strengthen online human rights protection

A three-year internet strategy to strengthen online human rights protection has been adopted today.

The Internet Governance Strategy for 2016-2019, adopted by the organisation’s Committee of Ministers, also addresses emerging challenges, such as the “Internet of things” – a growing trend which allows users to be connected to household devices -, mass surveillance, violent radicalisation, hate speech, and online abuse.

One of the priorities will be to further explore and promote the public service value of the Internet as an enabler for participation in public life and for the enjoyment of digital culture.
