In this podcast, Tam Baillie, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People and chair of the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC), discusses the impact of austerity.
Baillie is in Strasbourg for a film exhibition ‘Austerity Bites‘ at the Council of Europe, which highlights the theme of children living in poverty.
“These films have been made by children from eight countries in Europe,” he adds. “This helps contribute to the awareness of the impact that these austere times have.”
According to research, more than 26m children in Europe are at risk of poverty and social exclusion, an increase of 800,000 when compared to the number in 2008.
