Five-month deadline for new anti-terror measures

A five month deadline has been set by member states for new measures to fight terrorism and radicalisation.

Experts will now draft an additional Protocol to the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism aimed at criminalising the recruitment, training, preparation and travel for the purpose of committing terrorist acts, following an agreement yesterday at the Committee of Ministers.

It wants the protocol adopted at the 19 May meeting of Council of Europe foreign ministers in Brussels, which will discuss governments’ response to extremism and radicalisation leading to terrorism.
The Committee of Ministers also gave priority to the drafting of guidelines to prevent radicalisation in prisons.
