Anti-torture unit publishes new report on Turkey

Anti-torture monitors have today published their report on Turkey.

The Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) survey covers the period between 9 and 21 June 2013.

During its visit, the CPT delegation reviewed the treatment and conditions of police and gendarmerie detainees and examined the treatment of inmates in prisons in Ankara-Sincan, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Izmir, Şanlıurfa and Tekirdağ.

The CPT delegation also scrutinised the treatment of those taken into custody in Ankara and Istanbul during the ‘Gezi protests.’
