In the first of a multi-part series, Rui Gomes discusses the Council of Europe’s plans to fight online hate speech.
Preparations for next year’s campaign launch are well underway and contributors are meeting over the next three days to fine-tune their efforts to mobilse support – particularly among Europe’s youth groups – against online trolls who target the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities (LGBT), ethnic minorities, women, Roma and religious groups.
Gomes, the Youth Department’s Head of Education and Training says: “We are bringing together representatives of human rights organisations to think and design the campaign together. It requires the participation of online activists and is a decentralised campaign.”
