Podcast: Federica Mogherini dismisses fears of Parliamentary Assembly “Russia-phobia”

In this podcast, regular correspondent Federica Mogherini looks back on the key debates at the Parliamentary Assembly’s autumn session.

The Italian MP affirms that “Russia has nothing to fear from the Assembly,” following the furore surrounding the cancelled visit of the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. She also discusses how to make politics more attractive in an era of scandals, sleaze and a loss of faith in the political classes.

Ahead of the opening of the Strasbourg World Forum for Democracy, Mogherini gives a qualified endorsement of the Italian approach to making politics more inclusive.

“We have to give the message that politics is a service to the community and is useful,” she says. “The first step is to make politics attractive and open and then people will have more opportunities to find their way.”
