Inclusive democracies: Gender equality and Islam

In this podcast , former Afghan minister and alternative Nobel prize Winner Sima Samar gives her views on the importance of women’s rights within Muslim societies.

Samar (photo), chair of the Afghanistan Independence Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), is joined by Sophie Dimitroulias, Nuzhat Jafri, of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women and German UN Women’s Committee representative Karin Nordmeyer in a wider conversation on the importance of building women’s rights into democratic institutions.

This was a key theme of a meeting organised by the Conference of INGOs of the Council of Europe, as part of its World Forum for Democracy.
