In a report published today, anti-torture monitors have expressed their “fundamental objections” to Germany’s use of surgical castration as a means of treating sexual offenders.
The Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) says the practice is rare but recommends that its application be discontinued.
In their response to the report, the German authorities state that they are currently reviewing the matter.
