A complaint by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) about the effects of environmental pollution near Athens, has been declared admissible by European social rights monitors.
The decision to accept the complaint (FIDH) v. Greece (No. 72/2011) was made at the December meeting of the European Committee of Social Rights.
The complaint concerns the effects of environmental pollution on the health of people living near the Asopos river and the industrial area of Inofyta, located 50 km north of Athens.
The Greek government now has until 3 February 2012 to make written submissions on the merits of the complaint.
