In this interview, Professor Rainer Hofmann, President of the Advisory Committee to the Framework Convention for National Minorities (FCNM), discusses the factors needed for successful integration in Europe.
His analysis is part of an annual review of the treatment of national minorities in Europe. Professor Hofmann admits that 2011 has been one of the most challenging years on record, with unexpected concerns emerging in the United Kingdom, Germany and Norway.
He also expresses his fear that political action may be needed in ‘austerity Europe’ to prevent a worsening of the treatment of minorities.
