Three days of training on fair media election coverage will start tomorrow in Strasbourg for a delegation of Tunisian specialists.
The training programme is part of the Council of Europe’s support for the country after the ‘Arab Spring’ political changes earlier this year.
Lawyers, journalists, political science teachers and NGO representatives will gather in Strasbourg between 6 and 9 September, as part of preparations for the 23 October election of a constituent assembly in Tunisia, under the terms of assistance offered by the European Commission for Democracy Through Law, better known as the Venice Commission.
Attention will focus on the role of the media in democratic elections, access to information and candidates and issues related to equity and equality. Participants will also discuss methods of election observation, media pluralism, broadcasting guidelines for election coverage and ways of establishing a journalistic agenda which meets public concerns.
