A three-day ‘training of trainers’ session on fair media coverage during elections is now underway in Strasbourg, as part of the Council of Europe’s assistance to Tunisia.
In this French language interview, two participants – Hamida El Bour and Nouri Lajmi from the Press Institute of Tunis – discuss the prevailing conditions in the country, ahead of the Constituent Assembly elections next month.

They also give their views on how Tunisians interpret the support offered by foreign institutions and the importance of their country as a focal point in the Arab world.
The training programme, organised by the Venice Commission and the Information Society and Media Division, is part of the assistance activities established by the organisation following Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland’s February visit to Tunisia.
In an English language interview, Simona Granata-Menghini, Deputy Secretary to the Venice Commission (photo), outlines the long-term value of the training programme and highlights the contribution of the media to the process of democratisation in Tunisia.
