Executing two convicted killers would remove Belarus “even further from the European consensus against the death penalty.”
Renate Wohlwend, the Parliamentary Assembly’s rapporteur on abolition of the death penalty, expressed her dismay at the refusal by President Lukashenka to grant clemency to Aleh Gryshkautsou, 29 and 28 year old Andrei Burdyka.
Both men were convicted for murder during an armed robbery.
“The death penalty is an unacceptable violation of human rights, no matter what the crime,” she added.
