European cinema attendance in 2010

Cinema ticket sales in France have smashed a 43 year record, according to new research from the European Audiovisual Observatory.

It reports today that some 201.1 million tickets were sold last year, the highest level since 1967. An 11 per cent increase in Italy’s cinema attendance in 2010 is the best for 23 years.

Cinema attendance is in decline elsewhere in Europe. According to the report, admissions dropped significantly in Germany (-19.7 million, -13.5%), Spain (-12.8 million, -11.7%) and the UK (-4.2 million, -2.4%).
