In a speech later today to the Parliamentary Assembly, Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland will call on government leaders to ensure there are no second class citizens in Europe.
He will speak of the connection between democracy, human rights and social rights and warn that rising poverty, unemployment and social exclusion would increase political extremism and place pressure on Europe’s democratic values.
The Council of Europe Secretary General’s address to the assembly at 16h (CET), will also underline the organisation’s commitment to improving understanding in Europe’s multi-cultural and multi-religious reality.
Jagland will urge governments to revive Europe’s post-war culture of togetherness and strengthen the ability of political institutions to solve problems.

Good the idea of multi-cultural society; Bad the idea of multi-religious reality.
Religion isn’t reality, it is superstition, ignorance.
If You don’t wont second class citizens, You must fight ignorance, causing not second, but third class citizens.
Everyone is free to believe in whatever possible to think, but religion must be a private concern, mustn’t involve governments.
Religion is the main force inspiring wars.
